WAHT YOU SHOULD KNOW...

I'm telling you here some tips about the character fo the Finnish. What you should know and understand their values to be more in contact with them.

INDENTITEDNESS

Three groups are emerging in Finland: the Finnish-speaking, the Swedish-speaking and the North Sami. These groups are further subdivided according to their level of education and occupation. Finns are generally very patriotic. Recent independence and a tumultuous and painful history have united the nation. However, a strong Russian and Estonian diaspora is increasingly felt, especially after Estonia's accession to the European Union in 2004.

MORALE

Finnish customs are partly modelled on those of the other Nordic countries. At work, seriousness dominates. At weekends, on the other hand, the party is in full swing and the alcohol is flowing. At the same time, the sauna remains an institution. On average, people go there once a week. As an extremely healthy habit, the sauna cleans both body and mind. In the past, births took place in the family sauna, which is considered the cleanest place in the house. Nature, culture and sport also play a central role in Finnish life, especially since most people finish work early and devote themselves to their hobbies.

THE PLACE OF WOMEN

Tarja Halonen is the only woman in the world to have been elected President of the Republic for two terms (2000 to 2012), which undermines the status of women in this country. When Finnish citizens acquired the right to elect their representatives by universal suffrage in 1906, women were included in the electorate from the outset and thus became the first women in Europe to be allowed to vote. In France, it was not until 1946 that women were allowed to vote by men! The liberation of the wife from the guardianship of the husband was adopted in Finland in 1930. In France, the wife could not open a bank account in her own name until 1963. However, wage disparities between women and men in equivalent positions persist in the world of work as in most European countries. Today, however, Finnish women are increasingly choosing to continue working while Thomme looks after the children at home. Many foreigners, including Europeans, still find this quite surprising.

HOMOSEXUALITY

Well after Sweden, Denmark or Norway, Finland allows gay marriage from 1 March 2017 after two years of processing the application. Today, it is even possible for homosexuals to get married on a regular basis, as long as they find a priest willing to do so. However, homosexuals are still criticized for such marriages, even though public opinion is increasingly tolerating gay marriage on a regular basis. But dėja in 2012, for the first time, a candidate for presidential re-election declared himself gay. It was the green candidate Pekka Haavisto who made it to the second round in 2018. Krista Siegfrids, Finland's candidate for PEurovision 2013, stood out by kissing one of her backing singers at the end of her song, which did not fail to revive the debate on marriage for homosexuals.
